Science Friday- Virtual Assignment
Due Friday, January 10 by 2:45 pm
May be submitted on paper or via Google doc titled "Biocontrol for Invasive Species in West Maui Watershed"
In preparation for next weeks Field Science, read the following background and detailed articles about protecting West Maui Watershed from invasive strawberry guava. View the video highlighting efforts to save native forests. ALthough the forest highlighted is on O'ahu, the concerns and the species that pose threats are similar to those of concern in our West Maui Watershed.
After reading and watching the video- take a stand on whether or not biocontrols should be used to control the impacts of invasive strawberry guava in the West Maui Watershed. Your position should include the impact of biocontrol on other non-target plant and insect species; the cost and effort required to use biocontrols and the lessons learned from past biocontrol efforts in Hawaii.
Remember to cite any additional resources you consulted in forming your postion.
