About Ms. Klossner:
I'm excited to explore science with you this year. I studied Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California at Berkeley in Northern California. I've taught for over five years and have experience teaching 6th-8th science, high school biology, College Readiness, undergraduate biology, ballet, and art.

I look forward to working with all you young scientists to explore and understand science and how to apply our learning to make a difference to our community, state, country, world and yes the Universe!

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

Be SAFE:
We will spend a lot of time out of the classroom and learning around Maui.  It is extremely important that you are aware of your surroundings, staying within the boundaries, and following directions.  We need to be safe at all times to avoid harming ourselves, others, and the environment.  NO HORSEPLAY!  Not being safe in the field could result in suspension from field activities in all classes.

Please keep your hands, feet and belongings to yourself at all times.  Touching other people or their things can cause distractions or arguments.  Likewise, please walk inside the building and when seated keep all four legs of the chair on the floor.  I don't want anyone getting hurt.

Be READY
When you enter the room, please do so quietly and take your assigned seat. Please walk in single file. Please start your warm-up right away. Being self-directed means doing things without being reminded.
Come to class prepared. Always come to science prepared for learning outside. Bring a water bottle, appropriate shoes, a clipboard, a notebook or loose leaf paper, and a pencil(s) to science every day. It's also a good idea to have sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. (If you do not have a certain supply, please ask a peer or Ms Klossner BEFORE we leave for the field.)

Be RESPECTFUL
If you wish to speak, please raise your hand and wait to be called upon. It's important for everyone to have the opportunity to be heard and to learn.

Treat others nicely and say nice things. If you have nothing nice to say...please don't say anything at all.  Nobody is perfect. Please remember that when you start to judge someone or say something not-so-nice.

Be RESPONSIBLE
Come to class prepared.  You will need a pencil and your Science notebook. You are not responsible for other student's words, behaviors, and attitudes.  Let others own their words, behaviors, and attitude.  They do not reflect on you, only you reflect on you.

Please check the website for assignments & important information, especially when you are absent.

HOMEWORK POLICY
Late work is accepted, contact Ms Klossner.

ABSENT WORK POLICY
If you are absent when an assignment is due, it is due the day you return. You are responsible for checking Weebly for missed assignments.

If you are absent when an assignment is assigned, you will have however many days you were absent to make it up.
For example, if you were absent two days, you will have two days to complete it and turn it in.

Have fun!
We will be doing a lot of hands-on activities and experiments.  Be ready to have fun and dive into science!
