Review Integer Rules
When adding integers and the signs are the same, add them up and take their sign.
Example #1: - 4 + - 3 = - 7 Example #2: 5 + 8 = 13
When adding integers when the signs are different, subtract and take the sign of the larger number (the number that is farthest away from zero.
Example #1: -4 + 8 subtract = 4 , farthest away from zero is 8 (positive)..... Answer = +4
Example #2: 6 + - 14 subtract = 8, farthest away from zero is 14 (negative)..... Answer = -8
When subtracting integers.... Remember KEEP, CHANGE, CHANGE then use addition rules
- 4 - 6 ...KEEP, CHANGE, SWITCH 4 + -6
Now use addition rules for signs are different 4 + -6 = - 2
Multiplication & Division Rules
(-) Negative times/or divide by a (-) Negative = + Positive
Example - 4 x -7 = 28 or -28/-2 = 14
(-) Negative times/or divide by a (+) Positive = (-) Negative
Example - 4 x 8 = - 32 or -6/2 = -3
